Hi, I know in general the pentium is stronger but still I'm not sure if there's really a big difference between those two, and to whose favor?

1. P4 2 GHZ model SL5ZT, 400MHZ, 512KB L2 cache
htp://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL5ZT

2. Celeron D 2.4 GHZ model SL7JV, 533MHZ, 256KB L2 cache
htp://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL7JV

I would be happy for some advice....

I would risk and say Celeron D will be faster than PIV 2.0. And Early models of Celerons D were very overclockable Smile

The pentium 4 will be faster in games and multimedia than the Celeron but if you are looking for a CPU for office, internet surfing, music and movies the Celeron it a good choice.

Celeron D has half the l1 cache, but 533 mhz fsb, 400 mhz more.

I think like Marcin, overclock margins can go to 2800mhz maybe? Or even more? Less power hungry, because wattage matters with intel cpus Wink

Let's think it this way, you can have a cpu compared to AMD Athlon xp; maybe a 2000+/2200+? It would be better than the P4 anyway in many tasks.

I'd take the Celeron.

Not strong evidence, but we feel these tight challenges here.

you can easily overclock the celeron. It's powerful enough for some games Wink like BF2 or e.g.

When it comes to overclcoking Celeron with Northwood core could easly reach 3GHz+ with a good motherboard, but the pentium 4 too could reach these speeds because the P4 too uses the Nortwood core so again when overclocked the P4 would be faster because it has 512KB cache and the NetBurs arhitecture is highly dependant on the size of the L2 cache unkile the K8 arhitecture from AMD.

"It's powerful enough for some games Wink like BF2 or e.g." event the AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1800MHz) could outperform the Celly @ 2.4GHz, so again I vote for the pentium 4.
