|
|
As you can probably guess, this is another "which processor" can I upgrade to question.
I have the Asus A7V266-E, v1.07
I think it will go to an Athlon XP 2600+, provided the BIOS is one of the later versions. I think I need the 266 MHz version, which would be the Tbred AXDA2600DKV3C.
Would the Thorton AXDC2600DKV3C also work?
If I go for a 2400+, would both the Tbred versions (AXDA2400DKV3C and
AXDA2400DUV3C) work? What is the difference?
Thanks! |

OK - sorry - I hadn't realised what the thread was.
Is there any advantage to the Thorton 2400 compared to the Tbred version?
I presume that the Duron processors are not a particularly good option (eg Duron 1800) compared to the Athlon XP ones for standard desktop uses - but would be grateful if someone would confirm this.
Is there any significant difference between the teo Tbred 2400 versions?
Sorry if some of these questions seem / are basic, but I've not looked at upgrading a processor before.
One last question - if I buy a new CPU will I need thermal paste to attatch the heat sink to it? And will the heatsink and fan on the current 1800+ be good enough?
Thanks |

I used Duron 1800 few year ago. Nothing bad. All works well as programs, games. I compare Duron 1800 to about Athlon XP 2200+.
Thorton is Barton with locked second half of cache L2. If you can take Thorton and Thoroughbred in same price so then take thorton. It will have always better overclocking power then Tbred. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Hmmm if we don't see it we can't be sure. But propably will be enough. Thermal paste is priority in changing CPU ! _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |
