OK this is probably pretty mundane for you guys but.... I have a compaq IPAQ 1.2 P3 733 ( FC PGA370 ) the manual says I can put any P3 up to 1000 as long as it draws less than 18 amps but these processors arnt rated in amps as far as I can tell. So can anyone tell me how many amps a P3 1000 at 1.7v draws ? Is there a chart somewhere ? Formula ? there are several that will physically fit 800, 866, 933 etc.

Hey thanks !!!

I dont think they really draw that much. Put it in, and if it fails, take it out Very Happy Keep a hand on the case near the PS or under the mobo- Watch for signs of heat.

Looks like about a 10W difference between the CPUs. P3s aren't very power hungry. This is only if you are running like Prime95 or something, too. Idle power is a lot lower, especially if you have the OS HLTing the CPU.

10W difference is nearly 6 amp difference. Concerning that link and max Power of piii 1ghz is 35w and its only possible to reach 90%, max amp needed is slighly more than 18 amps, so this processor shouldnt damage anything, maybe running unstable at very high load (probably not, i think)
