hi, i got 2 VIA C7 last month
they are in PGA and pin-compatible with Pentium-M (of course need supportive chip such as VIA VN800 to use them )
however, the via website says that the VIA C7M is only available in BGA ....
i guess the VIA website is a little out of date

Dude, that's an uber-cool chip!
A shame it can't be tested in P-M board... |

if your P-M used a VIA chip , it is quite possible to "downgrade"
the Pentium M CPU to the VIA C7
the previous owner of these C7 is "upgrade" their C7-M notebook
to pentium M CPU
below is a link to a Taiwan forum for how to upgrade the C7-M notebook LM7WV
(in Chinese but you could click the link inside to see the pictures of upgrading process)

one of my C7 has print read as " 754 1500/400 0538CO"
and according to this link , my C7 should be called as C7-M 754 (vs the nanoBGA2 C7M)
thx for share!

They are very slow. Per clock is worse than like a Pentium II. That 1.5 GHz is more like a 800 Mhz P3.
But yah they are very low on the power consumption. And they have a hardware-based encryption unit which is extremely fast for that purpose. I imagine the chip gets used in ATMs and schtuff cuz of that. And Walmart self-checkouts maybe! |

Slow - that word not exist in describing VIA CPUs
I don't need C7 at this moment but I use C3 1 Giga Pro BGA with integraded all peripherials on mobo to P2P connection. My energy-bill is higher for a few cents per month For this I don't see better CPU from AMD or Intel. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

| Yeah they are undeniably very low power. I've always wanted one of those mini itx boards.... |

is a C7 C5J (which is a very small print on the bottom of both chip ) N2 (i dont know why he call it N2 and there is no clue on both chips, he just say N2 version ) ES

A friend of mine couldn't install his printer drivers because the driver saw his 1.5 GHz C7-M as too slow. Poor VIA and their lack of recognition. |
