I have an Asus A7V8X-X m'board and I want to upgrade from the 512 MB Ram installed about 2 years ago. Can anyone please suggest me a suitable type of RAM. The manual tells me it takes a -

3 DDR DIMM Sockets-Max 3GB unbufffered PC2100/1600 non-ECC DDR SDRAM

I don't know what the above means, but it sounds like I need to be careful in choosing RAM

Thanks, Stephen

unbufffered and non-ECC means you need standard DDR memory. PC2700 will works too. Don't buy PC3200 because can't work correct. And capacity not more than 1 GB per one stick.

Thanks, so am I right in assuming then that eg,
KINGSTON memory 2Gb (2x1G) 266MHz DDR SDRAM DIMM 184pin

2GB PC 2700 DDR 333 CL2 184-pin DIMM PC2700 Memory

2GB HYNIX (2 x 1GB) PC3200 DDR400 MATCHING PAIR 184-pin

1GB RAM PC2700 333mhz 184 pin Kingston

1GB(2x512mb), 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC3200 memory module

all of which I've seen for sale on Ebay will work?

Finally, when I fit the new module, is there anything I need to do in the BIOS setting?

Thanks, Stephen

2GB HYNIX (2 x 1GB) PC3200 DDR400 MATCHING PAIR 184-pin ----- I said that there can be a problem with that type.

two sticks of these 1GB RAM PC2700 333mhz 184 pin Kingston will be best option. Ask seller or check in description if they are unbuffered and non-ECC.

Nothing is needed to configure in BIOS. Just put in and use

Thanks all, this is just what I need - 1 last question please. At the minute I have 2 sticks of RAM already on the m'board and there is space for just 1 more. The existing ones areElixir 256MB DDR 400MHz cl3 pc3200U (total 512MB)

Can I leave this RAM in or will it conflict with any new bought ones inc the 1GB RAM PC2700 333mhz 184 pin Kingston

Stephen
