Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I looked around, and wasn't able to find a thread addressing pre-release chips.

I recently purchased an Intel QX6700 on eBay for $600, thinking I was getting a great deal. I received a QX6700, but the chip's label reads "Intel Confidential" along with sSpec "qqmm", and "ES", which I recently learned stands for "Engineering Sample". I looked back at the ad, and found it was advertised as having "B1 stepping". I assume this is some kind of pre-release processor?

I don't know what to do with this thing. I'm worried about having memory corrupted or something if I use it. Is it safe to use processors like these in work computers? I know any processor has its share of bugs, but are these processors considered too buggy to rely on?

B1 stepping would be a very late ES, it will be perfectly fine to use.

I have used many ES chips with no problems.

Many people desire ES chips over normal production ones as they often are not clock locked.
