|
|
hey guys, i have an HP pavilion 7905 and i ran CPU-Z and it says my motherboard model is a "A7M266-M", its currently got a 1.3ghz "thunderbird" socket A chip in it, i was wondering if i could put a faster chip in it, something like 2ghz or better.
Anyone kno anything about this board compatibility?
Thanks,
Dan |

hmm, interesting information, but its unclear if the board can handle a faster processor, he says he tested safely with a 2400, but that its unstable with anything over 2100??
anyone kno for sure what i could do with this board? |

I think he gave enough information. You ask about 2 GHz so there is answer. With BIOS update you can use Athlon 2400+ _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

If you read correctly the article, after trying at 2100 without succes, he updated BIOS (wit v3.33) and was able to put a 2400+ on it... _________________ Register on x86-guide.net to manage and share your collection on-line !

i read that fine, but i am looking to run it reliably, theres a difference between something working and something performing flawlessly. he says the 2400 works with the updated bios, but also says that there are reports of troubles with anything over a 2100.
is that because of the bios versions? or is that because the MOBO just cant handle it and is incompatible? maybe too much heat? im not really that knowledgeable about the hardware on a motherboard so thats why im asking why he says one thing works, but theres troubles with lesser processors. |

ha, wasnt trying to be, just confused about why theres problems with anything over 2100, but 2400 tested good.
Now that i kno i can get something nice in there, anyone know where i could find one? seems socket A is a little out of date. |

ok i might be able to score a Xp 2400+ and i was wondering if the processor is fried or somehow messed up could it fry my motherboard if i install it?
Also anyone have a wrightup on how to flash HP bios? I read on the asus website that you boot from a floppy disc and it will update it, sounded relatively easy.
Last thing, installing a processor is just plug and play if the sockets are the same right? (besides the bios flash, i mean hardware wise) no special tools required? |

Also i noticed the 2400 has a core voltage of 1.65 volts and my current processor is running 3.038. is that something that will automatically change? or will i have to set that voltage in bios?
Thanks in advance,

That is propably voltage line to memory 3.3V - not good power supply because to much difference. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

you mean like scratching/gouging it?

I tried posting a link to a picture of my CPU information on CUP-Z, it says voltage 3.038, maybe thats something else?
By too much difference do you mean that it wouldnt be good for a CPU upgrade?
Thanks for all the help, im a little new to this, ive installed memory, hard drives, disk drives but never really played with a motherboard before. |

Chipping or cracking it, like on this image:

I wouldn't worry about CPU voltage - if it actually was 3 Volt your current CPU would be dead already.

| I was looking around in bios and i dont have any actual options to modify anything with the processor or voltages or anything. just system time, boot order, and other things unrelated to the configuration of the processor/mobo (frequencies and voltages). will the new version have them? i wouldn't have anything to base the new setup off of if thats the case, unless i cant use default settings to make it work right. Only jumper or option on the MOBO is one jumper that sets FSB frequency. |
