I met a retiring professor at the local university and he gave me a few items a few of which I dont recognize. A couple items have lids that are taped down. Chip68 refers to them in this thread as being Mosis university prototypes.

The second set of items I am curious about as well, especially because of the wording on some of them. For example the chips in the first picture say "Fuzzy Wuzzy wasnt fuzzy was he"
and in the second picture they say "Out on my own"

Update:
I did find out what the two square ceramic chips with the lids are from the first image, they are processors from UNC's Pixel-Plane parallel processor graphics workstations. Interesting info here about the roots of it as well as SUN and a few others.
