Huge, heavy, multicore, white ceramic ... Yesterday I got them. Photos were made at afternoon so they are not looks so beautiful as in reality. Looks like MCM but don't know exactly what are they. Only that I'm sure is they are CPUs - pulled from big computers. Places where aren't cores there aren't missing. I compared to other unit which had other style of collocation. Some connections by thin wire says they aren't from present production I think.

Last year we made some researchs with Spongiforme, I believe he'll tell you more about them.
Note that if you want to trade one just PM me _________________ My microprocessor collection: The Gecko's CPU Library |

Some kinds of these huge MCM were used in Enterprise System 9000 series mainframe. _________________ My microprocessor collection: The Gecko's CPU Library |

Unfortunately I lost the whole e-mail thread - Outlook Express decided it should help me and compress my e-mails, but crashed in the process and I lost the content of my mailbox.
It's relatively easy to find information and pictures on these processors using keywords such as TCM and MCM. See pictures at the bottom of this page:

I read somewhere that the ceramic substrate had ~10-15 routing layers (and were quite generic). These "multi chip modules" made 20 years ago are quite similar to the multi core CPUs of tomorrow... |
