| I have a GQ3081 (Great Quality)micro atx with AMD athlon xp 1400+ cpu socket A on ECS L7VMM3 Mobo.from FRYS. Is it worth upgrading to Athlon 3200+ cpu? Would there be a noticeable difference? Ive read bad reviews about ECS mobos but Ive had system for almost 5 yrs with no problems. |

I think you'll notice it - the 3200+ should be twice as fast as your current CPU. Make sure the board supports it.

| The Mobo manual only states Athlon XP, Athlon, Duron support. Doesnt state up to which models etc.. Think it should be alright? |

L7VMM3 supports max. 266MHz FSB / max. Athlon XP 2600+ Thoroughbred

| Greetings to you Chrissie in Germany from California. So the highest I can go is the 2600+ and not the 3200+ ? Sorry but is any part of website you mention in English? |

Yes the Athlon XP 2600+ Thoroughbred is the fastest Socket A CPU with 266MHz FSB.

The Athlon XP 2800+ and 3000+ with 266 MHz FSB do exist!
I am using an Athlon XP 2800+ with 266 MHz FSB (AXDA2800KV4C with unlocked multiplier  ) in my computer.
I have an 5 years old board - SOYO KT333 DRAGON ULTRA (VIA KT333 Chipset) with BIOS from Dez 2003.
Despite "KT333" in it's name the board supports only chips with 266 MHz FSB.
Such chips are quite rare, but can be sometimes found on eBay Germany. |

I didn't said the AXDA2800KV4C is a "Thoroughbred" CPU, I said that the chip has a 266 MHz FSB.
My mainboard doesn't support the 333MHz FSB Bartons.

(My board is KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum/Black)
I tried to install a 333MHz-FSB Batron in my mainboard, but I was not able to boot the OS. I am using my current XP 2800+ AXDA2800KV4C for about two years without problems.
I guess this odd CPU was designed as replacement / upgrade CPU for 266MHz-FSB systems.

Sorry, I misunderstood the text you were replying to. I thought the motherboard didn't support Barton and Thorton cores.
