I'm planning on getting AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADA5200CSBOX, ASUS M2N-E Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard, and 2GB (2X1GB) PNY DDR2 Memory.
Is 400 watts good enough for it? I'm NOT playing highly graphics games. I just want a computer thats not slow, but I dont want my computer to slow down because of my power supply. I'm going to be hooking up 2 hard drives, 1 sata, 1 ide. And a dvd-rom and cd burner.
I have dont have extra money to spend on a power supply because I just bought this one for my old computer 2 months ago, can't return it So would or SHOULD I get bigger power supply? And also, I leave my computer on all day, probably turn it off once every 6 months for like 6 hours. Don't want my electric bill to go off the roof. I also don't want it to heat up my little tinny room. |

well i got a huge problem and im getting pissed off...i tried 430W psu and windows would just stop at the window xp logo with progress bar. So then i unpluged everything but my sata hdd and windows worked fine. so i thought maybe if i get bigger psu i might be able to connect the cd buner, dvd rom. But NOOO It still does the same thing with 650W PSU...Do i really need more then 650W PSU???? |

It seems that one of those things you unplugged causes Windows to hang. Try to unplug them one by one, and see which one locks the Windows.

I tried both Roms, and 1 HDD at different times, and same result. Tried all 3 at once, all 2 at once, only 1 at once over and over and still the same result. Maybe something is wrong with my IDE on the mobo?
The 430 PSU was Antec, and 650 is also Antec. |

That configuration was working in past ?
if that is new configuration :
2) check jumper settings on optical storages
3) set Defaults settings in BIOS
If HDD is on PATA (width cable) set it to master and leave alone. Connect two XXX-ROMs on one cable with correct jumper settings. At end I recommend you update BIOS and install chipset drivers in Windows if you didn't do that.
Power Supply is very good and should be enough but that is still electronic component and can be damaged - if all suggest will not help you should borrow from somewhere other PSU with minimum 400W and good brand. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

| Alright, well i bought a new sata dvd-rw drive and it works prefect. I installed ALL the chipset drivers in windows, and yet the ide still doesnt work. I checked the jumpers, and they are set fine. I only have 1 PATA connection on my mobo, so i can either hace 1 hdd or 2 drives. Neither of them works on any combination. So as of now, everything works but my PATA drives. Probably soemthing wrong the pata connector on the mobo? |
