What is the story on the Black Pentium Pros? What were they used for and why was production so limited? I did some searching but was unable to return very much info.

I don't think production of these Pentium Pro processors was limited. All 200 MHz Pentium Pros with 1 MB cache are in this package.

| The black pentium pro's are considerably less common than their ceramic brethren. Compared to most chips considered rare they are fairly commonplace though. The key to them is that you will almost never find them in a single processor workstation set up for a home pc or even a business workstation. However, small office servers often had them in a dual configuration. For that reason they are quite common at scrapyards that have a great deal of business hardware. I have probably found 12-15 myself. I used to be able to sell them for $15 a piece but now I would be lucky to get $10 for one. To many are showing up in giant lots because they have very little gold in them and are really not that uncommon. |

| Interesting, thanks for the explanation FDIV. I didnt come across very many on Ebay so I thought they were less common than they are. I bought a lot of the them to pick through so hopefully there will be some interesting ones. |

| Heck, with a lot of that size you may get lucky and find a few ES chips. ES's are more common to find in server chips than they are with chips designed for home pc's because often Intel will give large companies who are partners with them ES chips to use and test. This was the case with the 10-15 Itanium ES chips I found at my local scrapyard. They had come from Microsoft. |

Intel makes more ES for server chips solely because they have to. If your PC crashes once a week its not a big issue, if your 1000 transaction/sec server goes down, you lose millions

I was hoping that there would be a few different Sspecs in the lot. I dont have any in my collection so I was going to go through and pull out all of the ones without broken/missing pins and then sell a few for cost to those that dont have any in there collection. This is one of the things I like most about collecting is the hunt. This is only the second lot I have ever bought and so it is kind of exciting to think about that could be in it. The first lot I bought had a couple Duron ES in it.
