Hi.
Newbie here..............
This may be a stupid question but...here goes. I have recently dismantled a medion md2673 laptop and taken the pentium 4 proceesor out of the mPGA479m socket. So far so good. Now on checking the processor i find it is marked "SL6SB" a 2.6ghz pentium 4 socket 478 processor. Checking the pin config also seem to indicate a 478 cpu with two pins missing vertically instead of diagonally. Socket in laptop has just one pin blanked in the corner...
so im guessing i have a 478 cpu but why the 479 markings on the laptop socket that almost led me to buy a skt479 board to transfer the processor to... or am i still barking up the wrong tree???
Thanks for any help / comments/ corrections

The socket on your board is socket 479. I don't know why Intel used this socket for 478-pin mobile processors. It could be because they wanted to make it different from desktop socket 478, and/or maybe they wanted to re-use the same physical socket for a few generations of mobile processors (from Pentium III-M to Pentium M). I think Core Duo/Solo and mobile Core 2 Duo processors also mechanically fit into this socket.
