I want to upgrade my CPU, so I want to make sure I have this straight.

I have and asus a7v8x motherboard that runs with a socket A chipset (462), right now I've got an Athlon XP 2000+ (1666 MHz) in there. I want to move up to something like an XP 2800 or 3000+ because I'm not looking to spend a lot of money and my machine is running just fine, but sometimes the CPU gets crunched. I'm using your site for reference: cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/A7V8X.html

Now, this board will run a Sempron, but that's just a crappier version of the Athlon, right? (Like the Centrino is to the Pentium?)

Thing is, I have to find the best one for the least money that still runs with a 333MHz and most I'm finding are 400MHz...

So, this is my question: I can find fast Semprons in this chipset for super-cheap (but more work since I'd have to upgrade my BOIS, which I may have to do anyway), but is it wroth it, or should I pony up quite a bit more money and try to track down an Athlon XP 3000+ at 333MHz? Or would any of this be cost/time effective? I'm looking at the AMD Athlon XP 2800+ - AXDA2800DKV3D; or AMD Athlon XP 3000+ - AXDA3000DKV4D

Just thought I'd ask here first. Thanks.

Go for a Sempron 3000+. It's Barton based, and has very good performance.

No, Semprons are not crippled in any way. They only have higher rating than Athlon XPs.

There is also AXDA2800DKV4D. I think Athlon XP 2800+ will be a bit faster than Sempron 3000+.
