hi,andamus, according to your info, i googled a picture of XMB here:
.
well, obviously they are not the same. the XMB is with some capacitors, and the R-59 is not.
and i also browsed some website from which i learn the E8501 chips set were made in the year 2005, but this R-59 chips has a "intel 00" marking which means the year 2000. _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

Hi,
ok, I've found that the IOP 80331 (I/O Processor used on raid controller) share the same FCBGA 829Pin package but tis also have caps on top and it has a smaller die ...
The question is what "Mechanical Tambun" means .... maybe is only a mechanical sample whithout any electrical funcion so no caps are needed.
Btw the 00 on Copyright means that the "trademark" was registered in 2000 not that the cpu was build in 2000 |

No company as big as Intel would copyright a design in 2000 and not release it for a further 5 years. That would be commercial suicide, as registering a copyright puts information in the public domain (as far as another company would be concerned...) and 5 years is plenty of time for a competitor to create a product that matches the one that was copyrighted.... In fact, most chips these days seem to be out of date in that timescale, so I would say that it is safe to assume ti is not an E8501.
Unfortunately, I can't be any more helpful than that - eliminating something it can't be is never as good as when you work out what it is must be _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
