right now, i have an Asus AVN266-VM mobo. my cpu is an amd athlon xp 1600+, which i think is a palimino.

the rest of my pc has been upgraded, so im just trying to upgrade my cpu as well. since i have this motherboard, i think the highest fsb it will take is 266.

therefore, i was wondering what the fastest processor i can upgrade to would be?

i've been looking at AXDA2600DKV3C because it is the fastest 266mhz cpu i can find. is there anything else that i can put in?

also, where can i buy cpu's that are reasonably priced from? currently i only know of ebay and places like pricewatch.com. any ideas?

You are right, this is the fastest CPU available for your MB

and Ebay and Pricewatch are the best place for low price.

what would happen if i put in an barton 2600+ or something? i understand that it runs at 333mhz, but wouldnt the cpu just run at 266?

would the speed be slower as well?

i guess im just asking if i stick in like a barton 3000+ plus, even though the fsb would run at 266 instead of 333, wouldnt it still be faster than a thoroughbred 2600+ running at 266?

i think they're all socket A, so it should technically fit right?

I'm not sure but I don't think is possible because the multipler is blocked so for example an AMD XP3200+ barton is 2200Mhz (FSB400 x 5.5), on your MB will be 1463Mhz (FSB266 x 5.5)
your best upgrade is an AXDA2600DKV3C, 2133Mhz a lot of difference!
