Hi everyone, I am starting to build my own 'dream machine' if you want to call it that, and I just bought the case and power supply. Now my next decision is the mobo and cpu.

For the CPU part of it, do you guys think I'll just be wasting a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz since I'm not a hard core gamer on a pc, I have my Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii for that. Do you think I would be better off to choose the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz but pick a mobo that will support a Quad for future purposes.

Let me know your thoughts guys.
Thanks

i think that the quad is a waste of time, if u needed higher speeds, u could just OC the duo and it runs about quad speeds

In my opinion, Core 2 Quad makes sense if you a heavy user of 3D Studio and other 3D/Video editing programs. For other applications Core 2 Duo will be almost as fast as Core 2 Quad.

i think you should buy the quad because it's somehow faster, you can OC it to 3.6 Ghz and it's just about $ 260,whereas the E6600 is about $220 so you will get another 2 cpus for 40 dollar Very Happy

I agree, while you may not use all of the processing power now at some point you probably will and the price difference is so small that I think it is worth it.
