To upgrade or not help

Hi I would like some help in regards to my computer.
I have a MS-6738 motherboard with a ADM Athlon XP 2000 processor (1.67GHZ)
To increase my GHZ do I need to buy a new motherboard or can I use my current board. If I can upgrade what processor should I install and how much improvement will it make?

Upgrade the processor or change all is a your choice, I don't know your use of this PC.

I want to use my desktop computer for playing movies editing anolog video, etc. My computer is only 3-4years old and I purchased a video decoder but it runs poorly because it requires a 2.4GHZ processor.
I'm assuming that I will need to buy a new computer soon but I dont know what I should look for in both the processor and motherboard??.

Any help/recommendations would be great.

I'm sorry but I can't help you in this choice becuse I don't know the video editing and so I don't know the appropriate hardware .
