Just wondering, i have a few CPU's and i actually am going to college and getting a degree in computer engineering and probably after that a PhD in the same field, i want to design Microprocessors for a career and i love the little guys, just wondering how to best store them.

Thanks!

That is a very good question. I know some of the guys prefer piles on tables. Others I have seen have made innovative storage drawers out of wood. I currently use a tool chest. I have been thinking allot about this recently though. Although this might be fine for most of the chips a few of my 100+ dollar irreplaceables seem undeserved just sitting loose in there. Also I am always scared to take them out to handle, display or show people because they are so fragile. I have been thinking it might be worth looking into having plastic cases fabricated similar to those that protect valuable baseball cards. like the one below. There are quite a few collectors now and I reason we might be able to get cases made for a reasonable cost if we ordered enough of them. This winter when I am off I plan to look into this and report but for now how many folks would be interested in a plastic two piece case to safely hold socket 5/7/360 etc. chips at $5.00. I know I would want at least 6 myself. $5.00 would be a small price to pay to protect my Pentium es.

fdiv your store method is a very expensive but nice looking and practical. I saw one tool box like that here for about 700 USD.

I recently got two of these. They used to be archive for drawings and each drawer is 63 x 97 cm (or 25 x 38 inches). This gives a total of about 6.1 square meters (or 66 square feet) of storage. I will try to use cpu-trays for as much as i can get trays for. For the rest i will use ESD foam.

Edit: Here are some previous threads about storage...

IKEA have nothing similar to these "cabinets" for sale ... at least one year ago when I got mine. I tried to buy something similar to Simmayor's but without success. If you want not so expensive but practical and in defined dimensions then you must go to wood workshop.

Because the humidity where i live is quite high (usually 50-70%),i currently use CPU tray to store my ES chips in the anti-humidity-box (dont know what exactly in english, i mean that one design to store camera lens etc)

i have been looking for something like this one (baseball card plastic case)
too.
if the price is suitable (and if the shipping fee is ok), i might need 20...
