I tried to anwer this post from a modded 386sx-16 bit I didn't het the f'&/§ng W95 running long enough to install, configure and USE a modem ...

So from a (almost vintage) 233 MHZ Toshiba satellite:

Normally I use a 1,77 GHZ Dell GX 270
