1. Why do you collect CPU's?
Since 1994 I have small privat business: computer assemblage/upgrade/repair. I can't bring myself to throw out so nice luxury items.
It's pleasantly to receive from (or send to) remote corners of the world parcels packed with care.
It's interesting to find information about them.
I am excited when I am bidding on ebay.

2. What was your first CPU in your collection?
Any CPU I can't sale like a usable device becomes a collectable item Smile
I do not remember which was the first.

3. How many Chips do you have in your collection?
300+ unique processors plus about 1000 duplicates.

4. What do you collect?
Any device named CPU(FPU,BSP) from i3002 and Am2901 plus any MCU, UV-EEPROM, and some RAM chips. Soviet CPUs are my favourite.
If I found any very nice electronic not expensive small device, I buy it.

5. How long have you been collecting for?
see pt. 2. But my hubby makes progress last one year.

6. What chip do you long for?
classic c4004 c4040
50/50
any uncommon ES
1847BM2 (i80286 soviet clone)

1. Why do you collect CPU's?
Since 1978 I am working with computers. In 1999, the company I was working for, throw away their mainframes, no value anymore. It was a bit like throwing a piece of me away and I thought it is worth to save computers for my children and the following generation. So I started to buy computers. But you know computer need space and they were too expensive by the time. I found a solution, a mix of old technology, computer - tubes - books - software - mainly cpus and some other stuff.
The chiplist of Aad Offerman gave me a kick.

2. What was your first CPU in your collection?
I do not remember. After a while I created an approach database and sorted them first by age.

3. How many Chips do you have in your collection?
1800+

4. What do you collect?
Everything related to IT.
But mainly CPUs/FPU's.

5. How long have you been collecting for?
Since 1999. Started in the previous century.

6. What chip do you long for?
80386-12
and all others I don't have yet

1. Why do you collect CPU's?
1 always was collecting something - someday in the early 90's(at 11?) computers started to become my main interest - result were about 20 old computers bought in 1998 (my father didnt like them - taking all room in the cellar) so collecting CPUs became the alternative some day

2. What was your first CPU in your collection?
The first CPU i kept not for using it was probably some 80286

3. How many Chips do you have in your collection?
about 1300 CPUs + 400 other chips

4. What do you collect?
Any CPU/ closely CPU related chip (MCU) plus eye candy (incl UV-EEPROM) and hardware to turn every single CPU into a working system, where possible (basically anything between 80286-P4/Athlon XP until now)

5. How long have you been collecting for?
2002 I'd say

6. What chip do you long for?
anything i cant afford

thats almost how I found mine Very Happy I was at a LAN party in an old factory. I saw an old comp and looked inside of it. I took out the mother board and brought it home. When I removed the heatsink of the CPU, I saw it was an ST 486DX-2-66. Since then I started to collect CPUs

Thanks Smile

When I look at others answers, I am like this icon_yikes so many CPUs... Where do you get them?

I need some tips on how to store and maintain my processors. Currently I got my ST 486 in the motherboard I found it in (It takes quite much space xD). I am afraid of damaging the processor, so I have no other choice than keep it in the MB.

tips appreciated.
