|
|
Hi all
I'm wanting to do away with the beasts under the stairs being so noisy. The row they create is comparable with a space shuttle.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can cool them effectively without fans?
Prefereably free, and off the shelf parts..
Any good ideas out there? |

Some solutions..
Relocate the machines to another room/landing/balcony/loft/etc and pass the cables through the wall/door/floor. USB/PS2/Monitor etc are all easily extended at low cost. ( not sure about DVI though - but I dont see why not)
Soundproof the area the machines are in. This depends on what you have and exactly where you are, under the stairs maybe you can partition off a small area and soundproof/damp it.
Convert a wardrobe or large bedside cabinet into a PC housing. |

| The larger the fan, the less noise it makes for a given airflow. Using 1 large fan instead of 2 smaller ones is better. |

I second that. I've got two 92mm fans slowed down cooling a Q6600 and it is barely audible from 2 feet away.
Noctua makes some nice stuff.

Cool a cpu fanless for free ? switch the PC off, take out the fan. That's all. Never switch it on again.
Seriously, you cannot hope to do anything on your computer for free. Even JAC ideas, which are very good need some money.
If you want to cool your cpu fanless, you have to invest on a big heatsink made for fanless purposes, slow down your cpu and add a big slow case fan.
Anyway, if you have a P4, just forget about it. _________________ Register on x86-guide.net to manage and share your collection on-line !
