Which is the CPU you bought?

AXDA2800DKV4C

or

AXDA2800DKV4D

the first CPU has a FSB 266 Mhz, the second CPU has a FSB 333 Mhz, if you bought the first with C step you downgrade your system!

Download the manual from the Gygabyte home page and at pag.8 you can see the switch for set the right FSB (133 C step or 166 D step), leave the multipler on the default mode.

Hi isa-d

I bought AXDA2800DKV4C version of the chip. My MOBO is set to run my old Athlon XP 1700+ which is set to run at 266MHz fsb (switch settings=133). It should run OK then, but I did not had any booting with this chip.

Thanks

Did you buy this processor as "as-is" or "untested"? I noticed a few sellers on eBay sell many Athlon XP processors in as-is condition. I think they buy scrap lots of these chips, sometimes lots of bad chips, and resell them one by one without testing in the hope that some processors will work.

If your board supports the D version, it should also support the C version. We know your board takes 266 FSB because you are currently running it!

An idea to try:

Update your board with the latest BIOS using your 1700+. After that is successful, try the 2800 again. If your board is jumperfree it should work, if not, perhaps clear CMOS and try again. If it still doesnt work, then chip is most likely DOA. As stated above, many ebay sellers like to sell DOA chips under as-is blankets, I have been caught by that too.

If your board is NOT jumperfree, then you cannot just shove the 2800 in there and hope it works, you need to adjust the multiplier (16*133=2133)
