well, I post this thread just inspired by the 20 bucks K62-337 thread.
Why man would like to pay 20 bucks for it?
What can we do by spending 20 bucks?
Here in our country (my location, other place may differ greatly) a simple breakfast can cost me only $0.5. a quick dinner may cost only $1. A bottle of tsingtao beer costs $0.5.

Somebody told me $20 in develped country is equal to two bottles of pure water. right? If it's right, then I will no hesitate to buy some ES or some nice chip for the value of several bottles of pure water.

What could 20 bucks do in your location? Wink
Yes, I am very curious about that.
any comment is appreciated.
Thanks

That is interesting because the price of those chips got me to thinking as well. It got me to thinking that we are paying too much for chips!! Granted I am fairly new to this compared to some of you who have been collecting for 5-10+ years but I still think that prices seem to be going up without a good cause. Gold prices are obviously going to affect things I know. My point is we are a very small community and we should be influencing the price of chips more. How I am not sure, maybe refusing to pay inflated prices for something that only a couple hundred people in the world care about.

I am sure there are things I havent thought of or taken into consideration so take my rant with a grain of salt.

Now back to Hugo's question...what can $20.00 buy me in my area. Dinner for 2 or lunch for 4. The area I live in is somewhat expensive Sad

Here in Italy with 20$ (about 14€) you can eat a pizza (7 ~ 9 €)+ beer (3 ~ 4 €) and a coffe.
Btw in last years chips's price rise a lot (I think even 250% in some cases). I remember that the first C4004 Gold-Grey I saw on Ebay was sold for about 400$ (in excellent condition) now it's comme to see 1k bucks for it

Prices has gone up in USD since the value of the dollar has fallen a great deal. The dollar has gotten about 25% cheaper against the swedish Krona in two years time which in theory means that i can add 25% on my bids on eBay. Wink

A lot of people try to overcharge for relatively common chips. I (and others, I am sure) find it frustrating sometimes, especially when I see chips being sold for $20 and higher with a comment that they may be dead, have bent pins and as such are only for collectors!

That isn't a criticism of anyone, I just think when people who aren't sure of proper prices list something, they should do a little research Smile

That said, $20 round here would get me a couple of gallons fuel for the car. If I'm lucky I might get a can of coke (just to clarify, I'm talking coca cola Smile ) with the change (if even luckier I'd get a beer out of it!).

On the other hand, I bought two DIGITAL 1000 servers (a 4/233 and a 4/266 - haven't opened them up to take a proper look yet) for approx $20, so both ends of the spectrum can balance themselves out. Of course, I like to steer toward the too cheap end, because I don't often have loads of spare cash and I am a skinflint Smile

As for the 337. They always seem a little overpriced to me, whoever sells them. I just got back from finding the phone I lost 2 days ago, and did a search. I am amending what I put in the listing, as I see the cheapest one to sell here was a LOT cheaper. I'll wait until the price reaches something I like again, instead of putting up with a higher price just to get it while I have a chance of paying Smile

this is definitely expensive compared to china, especially the beer. Shocked
I would say this is terrible LOL.

Another example: 20 bucks are enough for 4 times KFC or McDonalds here.

I don't think it's true. Wink

In Germany you can buy 3 - 4 huge bottles (5 L. each) of water for about $20.
In most regions of Germany you don't need to buy water at all. The mains water is of very high quality and you can drink it without cleaning or boiling.

The prices of the common food products in Germany are:

bread (1 Kg) - 1.00-2.50 EUR
milk (1 L) - 1.00-1.50 EUR
chicken (frozen, about 1.2 Kg) - 2.00-4.00 EUR
pig meat (1 Kg) - 5.00 EUR average price
cow meat (1 Kg) - 8.00 EUR average price

If I don't want to cook I go to a Chinese restaurant. Smile
For only 8.00 EUR I can eat there as much I want ! Drool

Mains water anywhere is full of micropollutants - and bottled water can also have strange things in depending on the amount of processing.

Regarding water, yes, it is now more expensive than gasoline or diesel. Remember the price you can pay depends on many factors....

- where you are buying it. At a motorway service station they charge extra because there are no other suppliers for many miles around.

- the type of water you are buying. Mineral water usually commands a higher price than spring water. The clue is in the name and here in the UK ( and I thin k Europe) there is a big difference between Mineral and Spring water. It is a legal requirement to label the water correctly.

- the brand. Evian, Perrier etc.. they all charge more - unless it is on a promotion.

- where you are. I remember many years ago on holiday in greece I saw the prices for bottled water were controlled by government to keep them low. Hot climate!

Back to you question.. $20 her ein the UK is not very much. It equates to about £10 GBP.

About 10 L of diesel/petrol. ( 80% of that is TAX!!! )
For 10 GBP I can buy maybe 2 or 3 electronics/computing magazines.

On a budget, 10 GBP can buy a lot of cheap low quality food. In my student days I knew people living for about a week on 10 GBP.

anyway.. 10 GBP is not much. I have at least that in small pocket change right here on my desk.

In Italy, all the chinese restaurants I know, sell a bottle of Tsingtao beer for 2,50-3,50€ 0,50L.

With 20 dollars I can buy a pint of beer (4,50€ - in a pub with classic english ales), go to the cinema (7,50€), rant about how bad was the movie and the money I just wasted...

Or do as Andamus, have a pizza, beer and coffee.

As my brother told me, in Beijing you can live with 700-1000 uan/month (even less in the country), here you would be under any survival minimum with that.

You need at least 500€/month in EU, and that is already very low. Around 800-900€ is average, if you are alone and out of parents' house.

Yes, here the beer cost too much (at least in bar/restaurant) but beer isn't the first choice in this part of Italy Twisted Evil
