Heres what happens, here, if the town or city thinks they can generate more tax revenue with somthing else built in place of youre home or business, they can decide that its a blight on the neighborhood and demolish it so they can build a $ 1 million dollar structure there, In turn they get to charge alot more in taxes for the property in turn giving themselves pay raises. They do have to compensate you for it, but usually its no where near Fair Market value. Our tax structure is a whole other story to talk about except it would take the entire week just to scratch the surface of whats wrong with it and its ways.
