I have been experiencing random restarts lately. It has happened two times now. The first being for about one week ago.
The screen becomes black, The computer POSTs and then loads Windows again. No Blue Screen.
I don't know what's going, but I'm sure it isn't the CPU that overheats. |

What version of windows? What were you running at the time?
I've had it happen a few times, and it is usually the same apps when it happens regularly. Sometimes it is because an application is trying to access memory that it shouldn't be accessing. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

It is Windows XP Service Pack 2
I can't recall what happened the first time. Today I was downloading a film to WMP 11 from Intel's website. When it was about to play, it restartet. _________________ "640 cores should be enough for anybody" - evermore xD |

I would be inclined to blame WMP, although I have only run v11 twice and not had a problem. I have had some movie players crash on me, more than most types of app over the years I've been computing. I'm never sure though whether it is a hardware problem or a software one, so hopefully someone will have other ideas for you.
If WMP crashes when you try to play the file again, try playing it in a different app to see if that makes a difference. That might help someone determine more accurately where the problem is... (I don't get many system crashes now, compared to many people I know, because I have various apps running in the background to try to help keep windows stable).
An afterthought, but have you done anything inside the case recently? If you have, it might be worth checking that you didn't knock the IDE (or SATA, etc) cable. I have had a problem a few months ago (not the MBR problem I posted about) where my computer kept rebooting, and it turned out that I had knocked the cable at the back of one of my drives, and it was only just touching on a couple of pins. Led to the system crashing whenever the case was knocked, even by just putting the keyboard on it, at times! That's probably not your problem, but could save hours of worry if it is _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

I have put a floppy drive in my case for some weeks ago. My problem may be your last suggestion! _________________ "640 cores should be enough for anybody" - evermore xD |

I got this Blue Screen of Death. I managed to take a photo with my telephone before it rebooted!
