I took my old amd 3800+x2, asus a8n-sli mobo and 2 gigs of 3200 ram out of my case and installeed it in my cousins case. All went well until he tried to put on service pack 2. It would then start to boot, flash up something in blue that dissapeared before he could read it, then started all over. It would continue to do this.. I told him to reinstall windows. This time when he installed zone alarm it did the same thing. Any ideas?
Thanks |

Just different case then?
The problem could be a defective HD, if the HD isn't yours. Try your HD or another hd than your cousin's.
Try to do this stuff with the board out of the case, and see if it works perfect.
Could be some electric problem, also check the PSU, maybe not good enougj for th eold 3800+ X2.
Have fun. |

| Thanks. I am thinking the h/d may be the problem. A lot of the programs I used on my 3 cp's said they were corrupt when I tried to put them on his. He also said a lot of his downloads were saying corrupt as well. |

It might be an obvious question, but have you done a virus check on the machine with problems? _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

In my opinion the update has gone wrong and every boot attempt ends with the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).
By default Win XP reboots after a BSOD automatically. Most users don't want to see the BSOD and press the reset button.
Your cousin's computer boots -- crashes -- displays the BSOD for the short period of time -- reboots -- crashes -- and so on ...

I don't think it's a HD failure or virus. A damaged HD cause other kind of problems.
It looks like a RAM issue or incorrect BIOS settings.
Have you changed any BIOS settings recently?
Especially the incorrect RAM timings can cause such kind of problems.
Another possible cause is the static electricity. An electrostatic charge can damage or destroy RAM / motherboard / CPU during rebuilding. |
