so ive been wanting a little project to do for a while.. first i thought about doing a case mod with one of those nano atx boards, because theyre so tiny.. i figured building a computer into an old commodore 1541 floppy drive would be pretty original and cool, because i hadn't seen it done..

but then someone beat me to it. http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/c1541/ .. though i would have used a slot loading drive and had the original faceplace for the floppy covering it..

case modding sucks anyhow ;( everyones already done everything i want (except one thing, but it'd be expensive just to get the parts..) ..

so i was thinking, why not build an awesome 486? the best 486 that could have ever existed?

so, just out of curiosity, what do you guys consider to be the best 486 parts out there? preferably ones that are actually available, and not engineering sample stuff that was never massed produced.. best motherboard, ram, processor, video card, etc?

best CPU would probably be the AMD 5x86-133
It can be overclocked to 160

You could probably run a a Geforce in one of the PCI slots.

As for RAM you could do 256mb

It shouldn't be difficult to find 80486 motherboard with PCI slots. Just search on eBay Smile

Have a look at the marketplace on cpu-museum.de.
I've placed lots of stuff for sale there, including a FIC 486-PIO3 PCI board.
It is the best board for me, I've been running a 5x86-133 at 160 on it for several years.

I'll post the offer on cpu-world later.
