I am not sure if this has been discussed before, but what does this look like to you?:
To me it just looks like someone has taken one of those cheap plastic stensil kits kids use at school and simply sprayed on some white paint. |

Nice package
If you zoom in on the picture, you will see that it looks like the white print was added before the pins were attached. Although I agree that it looks odd, it does seem like a lot of trouble to go to for the small number of collectors who would be likely to bid or buy it. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Sorry, I disagree.
Hardly any trouble to do that. I could easily do something like that in about 15 minutes. |

I wouldŽnt dismiss all chips who have markings that can be done at home. I would go for things like debs wrote. How would you get paint under the pins? _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Looks like it could just as easily have been sprayed over the top.
I have several empty ceramic chips, they all have their leads attached and no dies. |

I like the packaging too, but its too pixelated to zoom in enough to really see if the ink is under the leads or over the leads. Does look a bit hand done to me as well tho |

Im not saying that there ARE painting under the pins, that would be something i would look more closely on. Perhaps asking for at better pic. Not write it of as a fake. I was asking how you would paint under the pins in 15 min at home. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. I aquired one of these more recently , not from the seller shown above tho, and heres what i see on them in real life, the paint was definatly stenciled on, if you look closly you can see the slight overspray, it is a glossy paint that they used, it is not under the outer wire connectors that connect the chip to the carrier at all. It is one hell of a beutiful chip in real life tho, its bigger than a pentium pro in this type of packaging. and is surprisingly heavy when held in youre hand What are youre thoughts guys and gals |

both prints seem to look very similar.
That doesn't proof anything but it might be a hint for an automatized marking. _________________ You may use the photos I have posted here under CC BY-NC-SA license. |

| I think they are nice chips to have, regardless of the white engineering sample marking. It is not a good idea to buy the chip for that marking alone. |

| I knew i had seen another around and didnt realize that the seller that has the first chip above also has another one, Now i know three differnt chips with the same style and font of stenciling on them. And they all look the same to me. I think perhaps this may have just been the way T.I might have done these chips for testing, They all look like they were produced around the same time if the 4 digit number is the date of manufacturer, same year different weeks. Of course i dont know any of this i am just speculateing. I will also keep my eyes open for more like this. I was also wondering if T.I. does stencils on any of thier other engineering chips that you guys have seen or are they stamped or laser printed on most other T.I chips? |
