I'm Thinking of buying this:

AMD Sempron 3300+ (Rebranded Athlon 3200+) Socket A CPU
Part number SDA3300DKV4E
Stepping code ADYHA
Frequency (MHz) 3300 (rated)
2200 (actual)
Bus speed (MHz) 400
Clock multiplier 11
Package 453-pin organic PGA
1.95" x 1.95" (4.95 cm x 4.95 cm)
Socket Socket A (Socket 462)
Architecture / Microarchitecture
Processor core Barton (Model 10)
Manufacturing process 0.13 micron
Floating Point Unit Integrated
Level 1 cache size 64 KB code
64 KB data
Level 2 cache size Full speed on-die exclusive 512 KB
Features MMX technology
SSE
3DNow! Professional

And I have this Gigabyte GA-7VT600(-L) MOBO running a Athlon 2500+ now. The questions I have are
1. Is this chip compatible with my MOBO?
2. Will I notice a significant perfomance boost in online gaming?

This chip seems to be a great deal ffor the price and I just wanted to make sure before I make a purchase.

Thanks Loads

Athlon XP 3200+ is compatible with your board, and Semprons are compatible too. I think the Sempron 3300+ will run just fine in your board.

It may help, but not much. It all depends on what is a bottleneck in your current setup - not enough RAM? Slow video card? Slow processor? What online game(s) are you playing?

I have 2.2 g Kinston PC3200 DDR400 RAM, BFG GeForce 7800GS OC 256Mb AGP, and the AMD 2500+ running at 2057 MHZ. at the moment. I play only Day of Defeat-Source and Team Fortress 2 which both run on the Valve-Steam engine.

Recommended system requirements for Team Fortress 2 is Pentium 4 3 GHz, so upgrading your Athlon should help with performance. I have no idea how noticeable it will be. BTW, Sempron 3300+ will cost you $60 - $70. For a bit more you can get Socket 939 + Athlon 64 4000+, which should be much faster than the system you have right now. Or maybe even spend more and get Socket AM2 board + cheap Athlon 64 AM2 + DDR2 memory.

Hey thanks alot for the attention given and also for the advice! I do have an upgrade planned in the near future when my money situation takes a turn for the better. Until then I'm going to try and get the most out of what I have. It could be better, but it also could be worse.
