Hi!

Its a 80286 on one Slotcard, but I cant read the tech specs of the CPU,
because I cant remove the cooler - so I think that card is a complete collectors piece (1A).

nice regards,
EW

Can't comment on whether they NEED a cooler, but I have seen plenty of CLCC 286 MoBo that had a cooler to hold the chip in place. Haven't seen one on other 286 chips though.

That's what he says, but without a picture or exact part number it is not easy to comment accurately, which was why I noted that CLCC do have heatsink and others usually don't...

It's always easier when a seller is able to post pics Smile

Cool looking chip i think, I have quite a few dips with heat sinks on them too, but they are mostly TRW and AMD chips.

I wonder what is the point of having heatsinks that are not on the core.

By that (just in case anyone isn't sure what I mean), I am saying the part that will get hottest is the core, which is under the cap. As it gets hots, I know the heat will dissipate along the ceramic, but the hotspot around the core will not be cooled as fast with tiny heatsinks like that being positioned away from the core as it would if they were on top of the cap (drawing heat away from the hottest part). Thus I question what purpose they actually serve.

I do think chips like that look cool, I just never understood heatsinks that don't look big enough to actually draw heat away from a core Smile
