I currently have a Sony Vaio PCV-RS420. It's fine, but i need more power and speed (music production) I want a better video card, mine is crap. But in order for me to do so, I need a bigger PSU, which i cant fit into my Small Sony case. SO i figured the only way i could manage both the two problems would be to get something along these lines:

I don't have a clue what i would need to do. I wouldn't install myself of course, i would take it to a computer tech shop, but i was just wondering if this would be possible to do. Keep in mind, i want to keep all my data on my current pc. Is that possible? So basically I want a bigger case and an upgraged motherboard so i can have a better video card and faster PC

Here are my pc specs. It contains all the info on my pc (its a pdf file)

Yes that is possible. Go to tech service and they will help you for what you need. Anyway good specification.

1) so would the particular example i picked out above be compatible with my current hard drives and what not? (plug-n-play sort of thing)

2) And also would you rate the bare bone example i picked out above to be superior to my current motherboard (check pdf file for specs)?

Last question,

3) So if i purchase the kit above, I would still need to buy a graphics card, and cooling fan? Is that it?

sorry

4) Would I need to reinstall Windows Xp on the new kit if i purchase it?

You could reuse any drives you have without a problem (hard drives and CD/DVD).

If by superior you mean faster, yes. If you mean more stable or something else, I don't know.

It looks that way.

I don't know for sure with XP, but in win2K I had to reinstall when I changed that much hardware. If you don't already have all the drivers installed, windows might not be able to boot to a state where you can update the drivers. You might be lucky though - I wouldn't assume it is necessary, I would try to boot before considering formatting and reinstalling, but be prepared just in case.

Do a repair installation immediatly after installing the HDD (and OS) on all the new hardware-

Boot from CD, select "Install" and then "Repair". Not "Repair Console". This will re-install all the new drivers and stuff, and leave all your documents and programs installed.

Just dont forget, if it's important, always havea backup!
