The company has been the last to embrace just about every recent major trend in the processor market. It scoffed at AMD's x86-64-bit approach only to admit this year that it will now use the same technology. It laughed off dual-core technology that arrived from IBM years ago, only to now say that dual-core is indeed the future. Intel also mocked companies such as Sun Microsystems and Transmeta for touting low-power parts in the enterprise market, but our sources say this is exactly the direction Intel is taking with its "Whitefield" processor.

Heck even VIA beat them to the NX flag, same with hardware AES encryption.

Very Happy Reality finally sunk in. I was hoping AMD would have at least a 1 year head start over Intel. Seems like Intel is following AMD now.

Yep. AMD will be releasing Athlon 64 4000+ and FX-55 processors this week (tomorrow?). Too bad I don't have have money to upgrade my gaming system Sad

some guy got an fx 53 overclocked to 3ghz witrh a vapochill

http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=231

iits kinda funny how the fx 53 is on par with the higher end p4s right now, and then just blows them away after its overclocked..

amd definately need a really low power/good performance part for notebooks and such though. id love to make my next notebook an amd, but i care more about battery life than i do about performance (within reason) so right now id be going wioth a p-m..

Well, FX-55 is out (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/VirtualPressRoom/0,,51_104_543~91048,00.html), so you don't even need to overclock anything to beat the fastest Pentium 4.
