it was already in the junkbox when the lid broke and showed what's underneath:-)
as the lid was a full size i didn't realize it was a lid.
I thought the chip to be a d-package...
so now it goes into my curiosity-cabinet (if this german idiom works in english:-/ |

It's the feedback resistor that determines output voltage versus DAC current. It's kept thermally isolated to prevent errors due to temperature gradients within the DAC itself (the larger die).
