I noticed that there are the same questions over and over, eg athlon xp with different fsb why is 2,3 ghz showing 1,8?, ram matching cpu fsb, difference between duron 1200 and 1300? etc. If we wrote a guide instead of repeating 200 times the same answers?
Point out the common issues and then have coop to write a part of the quick answers, something small and fast to read that will avoid 50% of the section's questions.
Less time on common issues will make us concentrate on other things, that may deserve more time.
What do you think? |

Sounds like a great idea to me. Have you started gathering material for such an FAQ list? _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

I doubt it will be of much use.
There is already a similar list of FAQs about CPU compatibility with given motherboard.
http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5573
This thread is marked as "sticky" that's why it's a topmost thread in this subforum. It's hard to miss.
Does it help? - NO !!!
As you certainly can see most questions here are about CPU compatibility with a certain motherboard type !
Most visitors are too lazy (or blind) to click the given link and find the desired information by themselves.
Only a few people try to do it first and then ask us for help if they still need it. |

"My new cpu, an Athlon Xp 2600+ is showing a frquency lower than what it should be, is my cpu broken?"
Answer: "what is your cpu model number, the fsb may be 333mhz, is you motherboard supporting 333 mhz fsb?"
Asnwer2: "No, my motherboard is fsb 266 max, what can I do?"
Qwerty, I meant this, not "my board is XXX is cpu NN supported?".
As I wrote too much times the same thongs over and over and over, my idea is to put some basic layer in order to avoid some sommon questions that are solved the time needed to write things down, take 1 min per answer and calculate how many time you've lost for the sam things. Too much.
I thought to split things for Amd and Intel first, than if other cpus are popular enought o make it in a proper section (C3 compatibility with S370 to say one).
The stupid things that are so obvious but that are always asked. Suggest steps etc. The things we already do. |

The problem is that most of the visitors won't read the FAQs before asking their questions. |

I was thinking if it is possible to add a page between screens, before you get to type text and ask a question you are prompted with a page that provides the link and says something like "...before you go on be sure you have read...", but that is Genna's decision. I don't even know if that is possible or convenient bandwidth speaking. A page that'll pop up only in the help section.
I see questions posted in the comment spaces for cpus, ignoring the help section altogether. |

I don't know if it makes sense to do it or not. I'm afraid that people will start posting questions in "Modern Chips (Collectible Chips only)" and other forums. Another reason I don't want to do it now is that I don't want to waste time tweaking phpBB 2.x, when in a month or two months (when phpBB gets to at least version 3.02) we'll upgrade to phpBB 3.
