First of all - GREAT SITE!!!!!
Okay, I have an old backup PC with an AM37 Socket A, originally came with an XP1800+ CPU.
Awhile back, I upgraded to an MP2600+, and the increase in performance was impressive. CPU-Z currently shows just a shade under 2.0GHz so I am happy with that for what I spent for the MP2600+.
Now, also, CPU-Z also shows this MP2600+ as having 512MB L2 cache, still sees it as 266FSB, but seems to recognize this CPU as a Barton core? I thought that my mobo was a T'bred core??? ???
My question is, that I "THINK" that the XP2800+ CPU is the fastest FSB266 Barton core CPU one can get, right? The info on this site shows that one of those would run at a realtime 2.13GHz, but that is still some increase over my current 2.0GHz.
Just wondering if the 2800+ IS the fastest FSB266 Socket A CPU, and if my PC would accept it.
I can get one cheap if it will work...
Just wondering... |

By the way...
On my Control Panel >>> System
The screen does show "unknown CPU type"
but it also recognizes it as a 2.0 GHz processor speed.
If I am getting the 2.0 GHz speed, just didn't seem worth it to me to make any changes in the BIOS (and maybe screw something else up...).
"if it ain't broke, ~ don't fix it"
...lol |

Bartons were very overclockable. To 2,2 Ghz you wouldn't have problems to overclock it. Just only push FSB up from 200 to 210 MHz. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Not sure I can overclock, as this is an FIC AM37 Motherboard, not sure they really respond to overclocking that well, if it can even be done at all.
Don't really need to overclock this CPU, as behind me, just a few feet away, is a PC with an X2 5600+.
My main question is that I thought the AM37 motherboard was only for a Thoroughbred core CPU, and the MP2600+ I have appears (at least in CPU-Z) to be a Barton core.
Didn't know the AM37 T'bred core mobo would accept a Barton, but now that it appears to do so, then in my thinking the XP2800+ Barton (the fastest Barton core CPU listed with 266FSB) should also work...
Just looking for confirmation before I tried it...
If I can get my backup PC up to a clock speed of 2.1Ghz I will be more than happy about it. |
