Hello all.
I have been instructed by the other half to make her laptop faster!
I have just upgraded the ram in it, and as I was doing so, noticed how easy it is to change the CPU.
It is currently a celeron mobile 1.5GHz Model SL7ME. i would like to upgrade it to some kind of pentium mobile cpu as they are ridiculously cheap off eŁay now a days. (found one for 7 GBP including postage for a pentium mobile 1.6ghz)
Will any similar pentium mobile cpu fit? I have been told my laptop is a socket 479 Micro-FCPGA?
Also, is there anything else I should look out for? What is the differance between stepping codes etc?
The laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens amillo pro V 2010.
Thanks in advance... |

There was many Celerons soldered directly on motherboard without socket so before any upgrade I recommend you check it. Then you can take a look around for Pentium-M Dothan on 400 MHz FSB with nice 2 MB cache. They ended at 2 Ghz as I good remember. I have 1.6 my service-notebook. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

| I recommend reinstalling the OS, if it's an option. Make sure there is at least a GB of RAM. |

OS does not need re-installing. Its not full of crap and is totally stable. Its only XP home, its now got 768mb RAM and its an awful lot quicker! (had 256 before). Not looking to spend loads on it. I know the cpu is not soldered directly to the board, I have already checked.
Are all pentium-m cpu's the same socket, still not sure about that?
Only really looking to upgrade it to something mildly faster & less power consuming, ie the pentium equivalent or slightly faster than whats already in...... |

You should be able to upgrade to any Celeron-M or Pentium-M in a 478-pin micro-FCPGA package. Don't buy one in a 479-pin micro-FCBGA package, you won't be able to use it. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
