I currently have a server PC using a "Processor: IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.2GHz", taken from DiDiag info.

I need to upgrade this CPU and have two realistic options available to me, these are:

Single Processor Dual Core Pentium D 950 - 3.40GHz - 2 x 2MB cache

Single Processor Dual Core Xeon 3060 - 2.40GHz (Core2Duo) - 1 x 4MB cache

My server only runs one game server, this game server cannot make use of multiple threads. So I do not fell that I will be getting the benefit of either server anyway...

But which do you think s the better processor for me?

Make sure your motherboard can support the newer C2D based processors.

The C2D based processors will run circles around the Netburst P4's and Xeons.

Go as high up the ladder, dual-core (not quad) as your budget can allow, realistically.

Power consumption will also go down Very Happy
