I am going to build a dual P3 server for my business and we have settled with using P3 933mhz based cpus. In my pursuit of getting two matched CPU's from ebay or other online sites, I came across various stepping models the two most notable ones being SL52Q and SL4C9. I looked on the cpu-world site to check out the differences only to find none. Well one chip was made in maylsia and the other in costa rica. Otherwise all technical aspects are the same. Can someone please tell me the difference in these two or are they the same, is one performance wise better than the other??

Performance will be the same. SL52Q has 1.75V core voltage, while SL4C9 has 1.7V voltage, i.e. the SL4C9 will be slightly cooler to run. The other difference is the SL52Q has newer stepping (cD0), the SL4C9 has the stepping cC0. According to Intel specification update the difference between these steppings is that the cD0 fixed one bug and introduced another bug.

Thanks for the info. I have a Tyan S2505 (Tiger 200) motherboard here that I'm planning on using for a webhosting server. I'm looking at the 933/1000mhz processors and when I came across this site and was looking at all the all the steppings/revisions and saw mostly stepping revisions along with various core voltages I began to wonder if only a certain one would work with my tyan board.
Out of those 933/1000mhz cpus, which is the latest stepping? Do any specific revisions have major server crashing bugs?
Thanks for the great info!

The latest stepping is tB1, but I don't think there are any 933 or 1000 MHz Socket 370 processors with this stepping. There is 1 GHz tA1 SL5GR processor, it is newer than the cD0 stepping, and it has lower core voltage, lower power dissipation and has some bugs fixed. It's not clear if this processor works in DP systems - in one place of the specification update it marked as "not validated for DP applications", in another place it says there are no known issues running two 1 GHz tA1 processors.

Ah. In your professional opinion, what 933/1000mhz cpu's (stepping & S-Spec) would be best for running on my dual processor tyan webserver? |

I don't know how professional my opinion is - I'm not getting paid for it
you already mentioned 933 MHz S-spec numbers, so I'll just mention 1 GHz S-Specs:
- cC0 stepping: SL4C8 and SL4MF
- cD0 stepping: SL52R and SL5B3
I think both CC0 and cD0 steppigns are fine for the server. Although the specification update says you can mix processors with cC0 and cD0 steppings, I think it'll be safer to buy processors with the same stepping and the same S-Spec number.

| Thanks. All the 933's and 1000's I was looking at are all cC0 and cD0 stepping cpu's. I'm only planning on purchasing matched pairs so I should be fine. Thanks again for your help. |
