Just bought a new mobo. It's the Asus striker 2 formula. When i boot it, it is able to boot into bios for a couple of seconds then just shuts down with an error saying "CMOS check error". On some occasions it will say "det ide" on the lcd poster before it crashes.
Ive tried clearing the cmos and booting without any components in it but still it just shuts down with that message.

any help as this is baffling me.

specs:

3.2 Dual Core Pentium D
Striker 2 Formula mobo
9800GTX
850 watt power supply
2 hard drives
1 optical drive

You can get back to where you bought this mobo for help.

I'm thinking if you tried it with tested components using the procedure you have stated it is DOA. Too bad. I like those striker II's.

Problem can be in RAM support. Manufacturers introduce motherboard then they work on compatibility with components made before their boards - I hate that politic. Inother case it looks like damaged flash rom.

Many Intel chipsets done like DDR2-800 at all, especially OCZ stuff, for whatever reason. What brand RAM do you have?

FWiW, there are an awful lot of negative buyer comments (ie: DOA) online for your board; so that would be my vote also.

On a lighter note, maybe it just wants an e8500, q6700, or ??????? CPU to match up with all the other fine components you have listed. icon_silenced

the case was definitely not earthing properly so theres one problem solved. The other problem on the other hand is that whenever it goes to detect ide the error message still comes on the lcd poster... any ideas...

oh and my ram type is cube memory by dane-elec its old memory out of my old system, i have four 1 gb chips but the pc only detects it when there's only one in there. code for the ram is: d2e667 - 064285ng.

Yup, I have an idea it might be what Wizzard1 suggested, your RAM. If the board only recognizes it if one stick is installed, therein may lie the problem. I checked the QVL for your board, and your RAM isn't listed. That means one of a few things. It won't work in your board, it wasn't tested for use in your board, or the list hasn't been updated to reflect that RAM.

I have one question based on my assumption the RAM is DDR2 667. Why are you using such slow memory on a motherboard of this caliber??

If it didnt like the ram it would most likly just beep at bootup, i would try to connect the hard drive to a different port on the board, maybe youll have to try them all before you find the correct one for the ide. I had an asus stryker extreme and it was labled all wrong as to which connecter on the m/b was the default port 1. I was using a sata drive at the time, Also are you trying to run those two drives in a raid configuartion or just a primary and a secondary drive?

thanks for your help people, ram still doesnt like there being more than 1 chip in but probably going to get some new ram soon anyways.

The new problem is that it gets to the vista loading bar, goes 3/4's across then blue screens. It flashes the blue screen so quick you cant read it.. any ideas?

I do not agree with you. Problems can show up almost everywhere.

Can be RAM too. I had damaged two sticks of Patriot DDR2 800 and had same problem. I tested RAM by memtest+. It will tell you if they are OK or not.
