Hi
I want to buy a new pc and so I want to ask you:
How CPU is better:
The Intel® Prozessor Q6600 Quad Core™ (2.40GHz, 1066Mhz FSB, 8MB cache)
or The XPS 420 E8500 Core 2 Duo Prozessor (3.16 GHz, 6 MB, 1.333 MHz)
thanks for your help

It all depends on what you're going to do on your computer. If you need it just for e-mail, browsing and simple office work then the cheapest Intel/AMD CPU will work for you. If you need the best performance in future games, or if you like to run 10 things at once on your computer then go for Q6600. For the best performance in last/this year games go for E8500. If you want to overclock it then wait for other replies

No way, the E8500 is only dual core, and with 6MB of L2. The Q6600 will outperform it in all todays and yesterday's games
It's clockspeed adcantage is negated by its dual-core architecture. |

Based on the well respected findings of "Tom's Hardware", the two CPU's are fairly close in performance. In a few of the tested games, the e8500 BLOWS AWAY the q6600.
Don't take my word for it, check it out right here: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/processors/3d-studio-max-9,369.html _________________ "Have you scanned the RAM timings for Operator's Headspace?? OKay, you got me
E8500 is better.
But the Q6600 remains the overclocker's choice |

Maybe so............. I know a guy that has an e8500 @ ~4.2GHz with water cooling. He has an outrageous video card: GeForce 9800 X2 (or something like that). The card is supposed to be the fastest card on Earth (this week). Gaming on his computer is nearly unbelieveable.
Recently I had the privilege of choosing between an e8500 and a q6700. I chose the q6700, and a mild overclock has it running @ 3.4GHz. The future is supposed to bring more and more software which will favor and take better advantage of the Quad's capabilities. We'll see. _________________ "Have you scanned the RAM timings for Operator's Headspace?? I just sold a cusomter a Q9300, and it FLIES! But they are too pricey for me, I have a humble e4400 at ~3Ghz with FSB400 |

I woudn't consider an e4400 so humble. I've heard they zip along pretty well with the kind of O/C you've put on yours.
My 1st foray into the dual core world was an e2160. It's still running in one of my other computers @ 3.06GHz. The only negative would probably be the small 1MB L2 cache, half of what's in your e4400.
With the way computer hardware prices have been falling, I may be retiring my 'old' e2160 for an e8500. Then the e8500/q6600 (or in my case q6700) debate would be a moot point. _________________ "Have you scanned the RAM timings for Operator's Headspace??
