|
|
Hello,
I'd like to upgrade the cpu on the epox 8kha+ mobo (currently a morgan duron) and was wondering what are my options? I'm guessing all 333mhz FSB cpu's are out of the question since the chipset is KT266A, so what cpu should I be looking for? Obviously I'll have to buy second hand which means there's no returns if the cpu won't match, so I have to be sure to get the right one.
Btw if I were to stick a 333 FSB cpu (or even a 266 if one of those would also prove too new for the mobo) on the epox, would it just run slower than it should, or would the mobo not cooperate at all?
On a related note... is the Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo compatible with all socket A cpus?
Thanks |

8kha+ supports max AthlonXP 2600+, the FSB133(266) version that is. My guess it's easiest to go for the 2400+ as you won't get one that wouldn't work or something (Bartons, FSB166(333) versions, etc.).
My guess is that 2600+ FSB333 256kb L2 version would probably work slower than it should and may prove unstable when clocked some higher than FSB133 Bartons may not work at all, or you might just get a "UnknownAMD" cpu string at POST screen and it would be running FSB100.
Remember to update your bios when changing to 2x00+ as you may have an older bios which would not support it.
A7N8X Deluxe supports everything including barton3200+ and sempron3000+, it overclocks pretty good too. _________________ Power without the price. |
