lol.. yeah.. ALWAYS overcomment. I tend to write a lot of comments, especialy when I try get my code tighter* than a ducks ass under water.

* If you have ever had to shoehorn code into a tiny MCU, like a PIC12C509, now F. You'll know what I mean.

Getting a little off topic here... anyway, I think I don't have problems with Perl itself, but with not being used to work with unix shells and tools anymore (csh, ksh, awk, lexx, yacc, sed, ... all similar to Perl in certain parts, as far as I remember) and specifically regular expressions. It's probably just too long ago (~10 years) I used that kind of tools on a regular basis.

Belive it or not I mow grass for a living. Started in high school, did it to pay for college. Trained to be a science teacher, couldn't find a job and so I expanded my mowing buisness. People pay more to cut their grass then educate their children. I'm not sure what that says about us but my mowing buisness is doing quite well and I find I invest less money in U.S. corporations then I used to Wink

I'll give this topic a little bump because I stumbled across it and thought I'd tell a bit about my work.

I'm a manufacturing systems engineer for a high-end consumer electronics company (www.pioneer.co.uk)

I am responsible for technology-based manufacturing environment systems. My job entails networking, embedded systems (some of which I custom designed from ground-up), databases, industrial engineering, programming (mainly in VB - "boo!" I hear you say Smile ) and process analysis.

I first got into chip collecting when I salvaged a 287XL from a automated chip-placing machine from one of our old PCB assembly lines.

duh..
I'm 24 and I was a teacher of English in a lower secondary school in Poland, but now I live in the UK and jump from one job to another in search of a decent one. So far it's only warehouses and stuff like that.

Good thread Smile

I'm 34 and a System Administrator for a small software company. I got a botany degree from the University of Washington but couldnt make any money (looks like I should have been hanging out with you FDIV) except for the occasional grant. Gaming got me working with PC's tweaking my rig and such and then it progressed from there. While that was going on I worked in real estate for a few years then real estate software where I am now.
