Engineer Markings (do you leave them or remove them?)

When you get a engineering sample that has markings on it in pen, pencil, etc. do you leave the engineer markings or do you remove them?

I have always kept them for historical purposes and in some cases to help decipher information about the chip. I am curious how others deal with markings.

It depends if the marking come off when I clean them. Sometimes I prefer to remove them. Randomly Wink.

Depends whether I find the information useful or not, and how unique the chip might be. Normally I clean them but there have been times (and will be more!) when leaving the hand written/drawn marks seemed prudent (ie a good idea).

I agree with Debs. If the handwriting provides extra information about the chip then I leave it. If it only states what I can get from normal chip markings then I remove it. For example, I wouldn't remove handwriting from this processor:

but I would remove speed markings from the back of this chip:
