I have a question maybe someone can answer for me, when bidding on an auction on Ebay, and theres a reserve set on the item, I place a bid and am the highest bidder but the reserve has not been met yet, but the maximum i have set for my bidding has not been reached yet, does that mean that my max amount is still less than the reserve price? Or do i have to have another bidder take the bidding up to my max before i know if the reserve has been met yet? example a chip is for sale , i am willing to go to $100 for it, i place my proxy bid of $100. Theres only two people biding on it me and someone else, the other guy is willing to bid up to $60 so my highest bid is $61 automatically, but the reserve has not been met yet, does this mean that he must bid me up to $99 so i bid $100 and meet the reserve or does the ebay system know when i placed my first max proxie bid that i did not meet the reserve yet?

If the final price of the auction is below the reserve price there is nothing to do, the auction is lost even is someone had placed a max bid that meet the reserve price.

Yes, so if you meet the reserve price, the bid goes to that value.

If the item has a reserve of $50

You bid $100, then the bidding will go straight up to $50 on the item, and it should say reserve met.

If you bid less than $50, say $25. Then the bidding goes to the next bid increment, depending on who else is bidding, and it says reserve not met.

Do not feel you have to bid and bid and bid just to meet the reserve, just bid your max, you may still win if the seller decides to offer the item to the highest bidder even though the reserve was not met by the end of the auction.

Another thing to be aware of: The seller can lower the reserve at any time, even after bids have already been placed.

If the seller reduces the reserve price, any existing bidders will be emailed by eBay. This is explained at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/lowering-reserve.html.
