Unknow motherboard

Hi,

I have recently bought an old socket 7 motherboard. Unfortunately it did not come with a manual. I can understand two sets of ping on the motherboard, but i am unable to determine what the other two sets do. one of the chips says 1995 while the processor say 1998 and ideal for MS Windows 95.

i am currently trying to get it to run With a AMD K6-2 450 or a 500 MHz processor (i have one of each at those speeds).

You need to set the jumpers to run a different processor. Sometimes the settings are printed on the board, but it is better to identify the motherboard and find a pdf manual online.

Well, the only idetifying marks on the motherboard are for two sets of jumpers (when there is four in total) and only other marking are on the chips attached to the motherboard apart from QC137 and V1.4.

one set of 4 jumpers in a square has the following:

A B
on on 50M
off on 60M
on off 66M
off off 75M

one set of 14 jumpers in a 2 pin wide line:
A B C D
On 3.5v 2.9v 2.8v 2.7v
ALL OFF 2.5v
1.5x 2.0x 2.5x 3.0x

the 14 row of pins is for setting the CPU voltage and multipliers.
unfortunately from what you have written here it seems the mainboard cannot run the cpu front side bus at 100MHz, and AMD K6-2 processors require 100 or anything close to it (like 95MHz). If you'll be lucky you may try to run the cpu at FSB66, but they will work below their factory speed (450 would run at 300mhz, 500 would run at 333). Should you be able to boot the system up at those lower speeds try finding the mainboard manufacturer by software (everest may provide the maufacturer, or aida, or sandra, or cpuz). Once you've found the manufacturer and model you may be able to update the bios so that it would run at a normal FSB100 that K6-2 requires

The K6-2 450 and 500 both require 100 MHz system bus. It looks like your motherboard is only capable of 75 MHz.

Still, try to find the model of the motherboard. If it is not printed on the board, look for a sticker - it may be on a PCI connector, or atop the parallel port connector, for example. Take some time and look carefully.

Foud the what turned out to be a Bios sticker, but i could only find a download for a bios upgrade.

FSB 50MHz to 75MHz
Multiplier 1.5x to 3.0x

That means it is a socket 7 as opposed to super socket 7. You will be able to run any original Pentium, Pentium/MMX, 6x86, 6x86L, 6x86MX, K5 or IDT Winchip (have I forgotten anything?). Any chip with 321 pins, even if it fits a 296-pin socket 7 socket, will not work, as the extra pins are not used by the board. Your K6-2 will therefore not work at any speed on your motherboard.
