can i upgrade the cpu on my old mobo with a better cpu going from a amd thunderbird 750 too a amd thunderbird 1400 part numbers are ao750amt3b to a a1400ams3b running on a (kadoka) jabil 750 select r4 mobo part # 40000646.

Jeeez what a weird motherboard manufacturer ... I read it based on AMD Irongate 750 chipset (Slot A) so Athlon Slot A 1000 Mhz will be max. For same price you can buy motherboard + CPU i.e.Athlon XP 2400+

Thanks for the feedback. I think it has a 751 chipset in it i dont guess that makes a difference i finaly got through to AMD the support person gave me the insight on the cpu fisrt she said up to the 950mhz then she suggested the 1400mhz she said it had the same specs. as the 750mhz except for the (tdf) i think that has something to do with the heat disburstment, anyway im just learning to rebuild these old units this one was thrown out to be picked up by the city and i saw it, It was complete gateway cp with scanner and 18 inch mointor, plugged it in and it fired righ up to windows 2000 m. I spent $199.0 on windows home edition $39.0 for a stick of ram pc133 256mb 168 pin. I found the AMD 1400 for $68.0 but have not bought it yet. Thats why i need to find out first about the MOBO supporting the upgrade. Called Gateway for info on upg. they want me to pay a fee for tech support just to get the answer im asking here about the mobo, They have a upgrade for the VGA card for $65 and the PS up to 300w for $39 plus 2 sticks of pc133 256mb maxing out the banks of memory for $ 118.0 (i know is this all worth it) well i dont mind the money that bad since im giving it to my wifes parents for a present they have never had a pc but want one so im trying to upgrade this one as much as i can. By the way Gateway said this pc with the upg's (not encluding the cpu upgrade) would run the game COD4 with no problems.
this would be worth the rebuild to me. So if u can help with the rebuild please do so and thanks.

I went on line and have found a amd athlon 1000mhz for $16.0 200fbs and also a amad anthlon 950mhz for $15.0 200fbs but my questio is the 750 mhz 200fbs saya its a SLOT A but the 950 and the 1000 and the 1400 are SOCKET A is thier a difference between these 462 pin cpus.or will they all work on my Rare mobo.

i can find the cpu's but i dont know which one to buy for this rare mobo for the upgrade. can u give me any suggestions on which one to use.

I have a place online with 2 1000's with the correct amd part number he basicaly has the sizes that i need if i new which one to order.

There were 950 and 1000 slot A processors made, but as noted above, they are a little harder to find and they cost more. You can see the complete list here:

Is it worth it? If you consider performance, then it is a question of whether it is economical to spend money (even just $16) on such an old system, for such a limited gain from 750 to 900. It may be better to save money until you can buy new mobo, processor, and memory ($250 or so).

However, if you are just doing it for curiosity and fun, then the learning experience may indeed be worthwhile.

Thank u So much Neon. I must have missed the chart your link directed me to i can clearly see the line between the two types of cpu's. I guess im going to try to find a cpu with the part # AMD=A1000MMRR24B which is the 256kb cashe die size which looks to me to be the one i need to upgrade with.
