|
|
I have an Athlon 900 w/ 200mhz FSB and a M/B with the VIA KT133 Chipset. Looking at the Athlon section on this site they show that the AMD Athlon 1400 - A1400AMS3B is the fastest Athlon @ 200mhz FSB.
I was looking to upgrade my CPU but the best I found is an AMD Athlon SFF 1600+ - AXL1600DQT3B for $12.50 shipped. Its in the same Athlon section on this site and has the same 200mhz FSB, it says 1600+ but its clocked at 1400mhz same as the top normal Athlon.
I checked google a lot but I did not get much relevant information, I found out SFF stands for Small Form Factor and that it has the Palomino Core which is native to Athlon XP and not Thunderbird Core like normal Athlons
Was it just a mistake on the site or is it fully compatible with Athlon/Duron PCs with same specs? Is it an Athlon or an Athlon XP? Thank You |

the thing is that your mainboard may have trouble with the SFF1600+. It is a Palomino, just like later Athlon XPs; the main diffrences between Thunderbird and this SFF is that it supports SSE instructions and uses less power (35W versus about 50W if I remember correct).
I have found several KT266 bioses with readme saying they support the AthlonSFF, but I didn't find any for the KT133 _________________ Power without the price. |
