Just to brag with my new ring I show it here.
As now it can't be prooved I can say this is a gold traced Intel 4004 CPU.
... but it isn't
It is made from pure silver and the chip (pins cut) placed in the hole.
Pretty heavy, I love it:-) |

hehe, nice idea but I didn't have a CDIP16 with a quartz window - does there exist such a chip?
On the other hand I like the contrast of gold and silver.
My first idea was a gold ring but then the goldsmith convinced me that the gold chip gets a better expression in a silver environment.
btw, I could not afford a gold ring of that size, the material would be much more than 1000 Euro:-/
I also had the idea to make the ring with sixteen mounted golden pinsockets, I showed them to the goldsmith. In that case I would be able to change the chip from time to time. But then the ring would have become far to big (I was fast convinced when he asked me to put just the chip in pinsockets on my finger lol). |

Micron's IS32 OpticRAM - a 64K DRAM with a transparent lid, used in a few imaging applications back in the mid-'80s. (Including their MicronEye camera.)

sounds like that strange Mostek chip, I guess it was the 4008 that could be used as 8x8 pixel B/W digital camera if the lid was removed.
I still prefer a gold lid here:-)
Thanks chris, you're the guy to answer the strangest questions;-) |

Yeah, I prefer the gold too... Although maybe on the next one you could mount a CPU die on top of the lid.

Pins? Nah, hefty heatsink is better. Like this one:
