The few C4004 w/gray traces that have sold for really big $$$ have been choice like new examples without any scratches on them. Obtronix sold a number of C4004 w/gray traces last year that while not in perfect condition, were still pretty nice. Some of these sold in the $300 range.

You already have some chips on your site that are worth well over $100. You could probably trade a few of your nicest chips for a decent C4004 w/gray traces now.

That C8086 you've got is nicer than mine and that chip is harder to find than a C4004 w/gray traces. I've seen 10x more C4004 w/gray traces
than I have C8086's. If you find a collector with a spare C4004 w/gray traces that does not have a nice C8086, you've would have a good chance of making a trade.

500 chipy may fit in a pizza box and that might be a big collection.
I collect a little of everything, I am proud of my P+D+C 4040 and still searching for a C8080. I have roundabout 30 old Computers from an Apple ][+ and a PET up to a "modern" SUN Sparc 20. That all fills a room (ok, under the roof) and I don't call that big. It is really hard to define what is the biggest (then I think demotronic is biggest;-))).
I would prefer the question: Wo has most fun? Who gets most satisfaction out of his hobby? And there, I think, may be just a little difference between a multiple C4004-owner and a x86-collector.

By the way - happyness and satisfaction: My best experience was a visit to a recycling company in the south of Germany. I came to a big hall with boxes of computer waste, most boards (x86 motherboards). At the side of one box a few meters high i saw a white chip and asked for that box.
I spent three hours in that box - yes, in!!! I found a couple of boards that contained C3301s, some white 24-pin-ROMs and other nice stuff - no C4004. BUT: the feeling in that box was like a gold digger on a goog claim. I'll never forget that. These were my first white chips and most of them I still have - on their boards.
